Synapse have a number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identified opportunities for Support Workers in Cairns. No qualifications are required as the relevant training will be provided! Synapse provides a range of services for people who have been impacted by brain injury and disability. We promote social and emotional wellbeing, self-determination and choice through information, specialist support and targeted research activities. We are looking for people to join our growing team that are committed to the best outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people with disability. Your experience and knowledge of community and culture and helping others stay connected with mob and doing the things that are important to social and emotional well-being are the most important skills for this role. The successful candidates will assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people impacted by brain injury to be part of and function in the community while finding their identity and self-belief. The candidates will have: An understanding of the issues that impact on both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; Demonstrated capacity to relate to people with a profound disability, their families/guardian, and The ability to think and act calmly and deal sensitively with people in distress; The ability to work with individuals and link them in with other community resources that promote choice and self-determination; The ability to work as part of a strong team in the provision of support to people with disability.
