We will be involved in a number of key NAIDOC Week events to represent the work we do and engage with local communities. These events are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate NAIDOC week and learn more about what this year's theme means as we work towards a shared future. WHERE TO FROM ULURU? STATEMENTS FROM THE HEART


  • Time: 4pm registration and seating for 4.30pm start 
  • Presentations and panel discussion 4.30pm to 6:00pm
  • Refreshments and networking 6.00pm to 6.30pm
  • Venue: Bluewater Room, Pullman International, 17 Abbott Street


Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander champions - Thomas Mayor, Michelle Deshong, Dean Parkin - come together at the Cairns Pullman International to share their insights and perspectives on the importance of the Uluru Statement from Heart and the opportunity the Statement presents to all Australians. What does a voice to Parliament for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders look like? What is this truth-telling business about? Why is the Uluru Statement from the Heart important to all Australians and to the future of our Nation?

Rain, hail or shine bring your flags, banners, signs and join the NAIDOC March. Cairns Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community - be loud and be proud!

CAIRNS NAIDOC FRIDAY IN THE PARK


  • Time: 10:00am - 6:00pm
  • Venue: Fogarty Park, Cairns Esplanade

 

Cairns NAIDOC Week will commence with the arrival of marchers and will be officially opened by traditional owners, Indigenous leaders, local politicians and community members. Friday in the Park brings our people together, organisations and agencies' with their stalls, Indigenous business enterprises selling their wares and arts and crafts. Food will also be available for purchase. Entertainment will be provided in the form of singers, bands and dance groups displaying our cultural practices and history.

KUNJUR FIRST NATION'S MEN'S COLLECTIVE 


  • Time: 10:00am - 5:00pm 
  • Venue: 156 Irene Street, Mooroobool

 

The Cairns NAIDOC Committee is delighted to partner with Kunjur First Nation's Mens Collective to hold the first men's even gathering. The Kunjur Collective is in its infancy and hosts weekly events every Wednesday throughout the year. They are looking for members and encourage all local men to come along and join them.

This event is men supporting men.

NAIDOC AFTERNOON TEA - HOSTED BY BIRRIMBAH BEAUTY


  • Time: 2:00pm arrivals for 2:30pm start, event will conclude at 5:30pm
  • Venue: Lockhart Room, Cairns Colonial Club 

 

Birrimbah Beauty is proud to host for the second year; Cairns NAIDOC Afternoon Tea. Join us as we celebrate this year's NAIDOC Theme; "Voice, Treaty, Truth, significant Indigenous Achievements, local traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Dancers as well as supporting local Indigenous Businesses and Organisations.

CAIRNS NAIDOC BREAKFAST 2019

  • Panel Discussion: 9:00 - 10:30am
  • Venue: Grand Ballroom, Pullman International, 17 Abbott Street

 

The Cairns NAIDOC Committee is hosting the 10th NAIDOC Breakfast in 2019. Come along and celebrate this milestone with us.

 

Speakers:

Pat Anderson AO, an Alyawarre woman from the Northern Territory, she is social justice advocate and her leadership and contribution lead her as a key spokesperson at the Uluru National Convention in 2017 which resulted in a formal decision - the Uluru Statement of the Heart, a declaration to the Government requesting a Parliamentary First Nations' voice. In 2018 she received "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the national NAIDOC Committee.

 

Dr Timothy Bottoms, is a Cairns based Author and Historian specialising in Australian history. He has written several books on Far North Queensland's history including Aboriginal history, frontier history and native title. He has also successfully produced several documentaries relating to his written work.

With this year's NAIDOC Week theme being 'Voice. Treaty. Truth', Tjapukai is proud to invite the Far North community to celebrate this with a FREE Open Day, and walk forward with us for a better future.

WUCHOPPEREN HEALTH SERVICE COMMUNITY NAIDOC DAY AND 40TH ANNIVERSARY

  • Venue: Wuchopperen Health Service Limited, 6 Moignard Street, Manoora

 

Wuchopperen Health Service Limited will hold its annual NAIDOC Community Day Wednesday 10th July 2019 and will include the launch of our 40th Anniversary celebrations. It was on NAIDOC Day 10th July 1981 that Wuchopperen opened our doors so it's a special day.

 

Our community day will be a chance to catch up with friends and family and to enjoy community activities including music and dancing and to share a meal. We deliver holistic primary health care services in Manoora, Edmonton and deliver child wellbeing services across the region including Atherton.

MUNUNJALI NAIDOC DAY

  • Venue: Jubilee Park, Beaudesert

 

Celebrate and connect at the Mununjali NAIDOC Family Fun Day. Get a kangaroo sausage sizzle at the food tent, and taste native foods. Enjoy healthy, affordable food sourced through local suppliers Heits Butcher, Beaudesert Bakehouse and The Big Pumpkin. There'll be free rides, attractions, children's activities, dance performances and cultural workshops.

FAMILY FUN DAY MUSGRAVE PARK

Musgrave Park Family Fun Day is held on the Friday of NAIDOC  week each year, delivering family friendly entertainment and activities to showcase aspects of Indigenous Australian culture and heritage across various mediums of performing arts, traditional foods, arts and crafts, to contemporary aspects promoted by Australian Indigenous Entrepreneurs.

KEMPSEY FAMILY FUN DAY

  • Venue: Services Club Park in Belgrave St

 

Family Referral Service will supporting Burrun Dalai Family Fun Day at Services Park. We welcome all Dunghutti community members to come and celebrate this years NADIOC week. Family Referral Service will be providing resources and promotional material in bags, along with a fun coloured hair spray activity for children.
