About Last Night

Q. My partner and I are happily married and have quite a decent sex life (considering the demands of work, kids, etc). However, lately, during sex, he asks me to put my hands around his neck and strangle him when he is about to orgasm.

He says it really turns him on and makes his orgasm more intense. I feel very uncomfortable doing this. I am scared I will hurt him (he likes me to squeeze quite hard!) and find it a bit disturbing, particularly after what happened to Michael Hutchence. Any advice for either of us?

A. When I was a schoolgirl a fad went around called the Fainting Game. With a combination of breathing and tummy squeezing we would pass out, then come round feeling pleasantly peculiar. We were soon warned that this "game" involved starving the brain of oxygen, and could cause brain damage, or worse, so we stopped.

"Erotic asphyxiation" is a more extreme version of this "game", in which oxygen deprivation is used to heighten the pleasure of orgasm.
