Synapse Information & Referral – Helping you navigate brain injury

Information and Referral

When brain injury impacts your life or the life of someone you care for, there can be a lot of complex circumstances and systems to navigate. Between adjusting to life with a brain injury and finding suitable support, knowing where to start or who to turn to can be difficult.

People with a brain injury tell us that it can be difficult understanding the effects of their injury or managing certain aspects of their everyday life. Similarly, family, carers and support providers are often looking for information and advice to help them better understand and respond to the changes that brain injury brings about.

Advice from people who understand

If this sounds like your situation, our Information and Referrals service is the perfect team to turn to. With specialised knowledge of brain injury and the systems that provide support, the team is here to point you to the information you need and advise you on services and providers who truly understand brain injury.

“People like to feel that someone understands and listens to them. With brain injury its different to other disabilities and requires someone who gets it – when others (service providers included) might assume everything’s fine. There’s a lot often going on behind the scenes for people and we offer understanding of that.” – Information Consultant, Robyn Ellis.

Supporting you to make informed decisions

Our Information and Referrals team is here to listen and learn about your situation to help clarify what you need and the decisions that may lay ahead of you. There’s a vast amount of information out there about brain injury, support services, health care and funding and we’re able to simplify this and walk with you as you navigate the journey.

Here’s a simple overview of how we can help:

People with brain injury

  • Support services and funding for yourself.
  • Social connection and peer support.

Carers

  • Advocating on behalf of the person with brain injury to access funding, services and supports.
  • Support to deal with your own emotional wellbeing and the caring role.
  • Resources to help you better understand what’s happening to your loved one.

Providers

  • Information and training for you and your team to help you understand more about brain injury, its effects, and appropriate care practices.
  • Resources to ensure your clients receive care and support in the areas most impacted by brain injury.

“After calling around to various organisations, I didn’t feel as comfortable as I did when speaking to Synapse. Your willingness to help us and the care and compassion that you shared has created a level of trust, which in turn has encouraged us to access NDIS Support Coordination.” - Susan .
