Cook-along-at-home with Vikki Moursellas
Who rules the kitchen? Vikki does!
One of Synapse’s successful peer-to-peer events during Brain Injury Awareness Week was an online cooking lesson from television personality, Vikki Moursellas.
Vikki’s Cook-along-at-home on Wednesday August 18 was a fun and rewarding experience for many in our community as well as several Synapse team members.
Vikki walked us through cooking a delicious meal of lamb keftedes, pita bread and tzatziki while sharing stories about her family, her love of cooking and how food connected her with her Greek heritage.
“I just loved seeing everyone cooking. It’s nice to have people cooking our recipes and enjoying it. It’s what takes me back to Greece,” Vikki said.
Vikki also spoke about her time on television program, My Kitchen Rules, when she appeared with her sister Helena and succeeded in getting quite a following among the Australian public.
“I was just stunned with the cooking skills of everyone who attended,” Synapse Local Engagement Officer and event organiser, Robyn Howard, said.
Synapse Family Liaison Officer Jay Alexanderson, who lives with a brain injury, attended the online event and, with Vikki’s expert guidance, succeeded in cooking a delicious family meal.
“I really enjoyed cooking along and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without some help from my mum – there’s still some tasks I struggle with, but I think I made myself pretty useful!” Jay said.
With many in our community currently in lockdown due to COVID-19 restrictions, the session was an amazing opportunity to connect and have a little fun, chat, laugh and share with each other.
But the best part was eating a delicious lunch that many of us were able to share with our families.
Synapse thanks Vikki Moursellas for delivering this special Brain Injury Awareness Week event, and sharing her skills, knowledge and stories with us.
