Encephalitis as a cause of Acquired Brain Injury
From August 16 – 22, 2021, we are celebrating Brain Injury Awareness Week. Our theme, ‘Every brain injury is different’ recognises the uniqueness of each injury and tells the stories of people and families impacted by brain injury across Australia.
A leading cause of brain injury, Encephalitis is caused by an infection of the brain or the immune system attacking the brain. It can come from a small seemingly harmless infection, such as coldsores.
In this special conversation, guests Corinna Melville, Rachael Schwarz, Veronique Theberge and Karen Tighe from across Australia and New Zealand discuss how it can affect anyone of any age or gender, and share their intimate experiences of what it is like to survive encephalitis.
