Synapse seeks meeting over NDIS legislation leak

Last week’s leaked draft of amends to NDIS legislation, which suggested that consideration had been given to removing funding from Australians with acquired brain injuries and foetal alcohol spectrum disorder has, quite understandably, caused widespread alarm.

While the outgoing NDIS Minister said the leak had caused ‘unnecessary concern’, we will be seeking more detailed reassurance around the NDIA’s position on this issue.

As you well know, brain injury already encounters challenges at every turn – from diagnosis, to available supports, to societal accommodation and much more besides. However, if the NDIA needs a better understanding of its implications, our Synapse family will be all too willing to help.

We are writing to the new NDIS Minister, Linda Reynolds, and to all state and territory disability ministers to request an urgent meeting. This will give us an opportunity to inform decision makers about your needs and the validity of brain injury’s claim to NDIS support.

We will keep you informed as the situation evolves and we learn more about the NDIA’s plans. In the meantime, if you do need connected with advice or support services, please contact our information and referral teams on 1800 673 074.
