Brain injury and staying connected
Date: Wednesday 20th August 2025
Time: 11:00am to 12:00pm AEST
Speaker: Elizabeth Ambrose – Synapse Ambassador and Public Health Researcher
Description: After a brain injury, connection can feel hard to navigate and even harder to maintain. The people in your life might change. Your energy might change. How you relate to the world around you might change. But connection remains one of the most important parts of recovery and how that looks is different for everyone.
In this heartfelt and practical session, we’ll explore the realities of social connection post-injury, the challenges, the quiet wins, and the many different ways people find support, community, and purpose again.
Drawing on research, personal experience, and conversations with other survivors, Elizabeth will talk about:
- Why isolation is so common and how it affects recovery and wellbeing.
- What “connection” can look like in real life: from close friends to support groups, from volunteering to finding your comfort zone.
- How to start small and go at your own pace, especially if confidence or energy feels low.
- Why visibility and community matter not just for individuals, but for broader change.
Whether you’re looking to reconnect with the people around you, branch out and meet others with lived experience, or simply feel less alone in your recovery, you are welcome here.
